Montezuma is a beautiful beach community, where thickly forested hills descend to rugged white-sand beaches and rocky coves. With its crystal blue waters, its palm and almond-fringed bays and the rivers that descend down to the ocean through thick jungle – this is a true nature-lover’s paradise. Everywhere you go you will hear the vibrant noises of the jungle or the hypnotic rhythms of the ocean.
The
manzanillo costa rica real estate investment opportunities are various. Down closer to town you will find a number of business opportunities: hotels, hostels or bed and breakfasts. Perched on the hills overlooking Montezuma are some spectacular ocean view homes for sale. There are also lots for sale for those that wish to purchase and build their own dream home in this beautiful town. There are also opportunities for real estate investors in the sleepy town of Cabuya. Here the prices are a bit lower, and you can still find affordable properties on the beach.
The town itself has a bohemian feel. The main street of town bustles with visitors and is lined with old wooden buildings, which house restaurants, jewelry stores, adventure tour shops, ice cream stores and more. Every Saturday morning there is an organic farmers’ market, where you can browse the offering of local fruit and vegetables, as well as handmade jewelry and other crafts. The area has a large yoga community, as well as permaculture projects nestled into the hills above town.
The main draw of Montezuma is its gorgeous beaches. Just north of the bustling town is the long, sandy beach of Montezuma, which is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. At the north end of the beach there is a trail that will lead you to a hidden cove called Piedra Colorado. Here you can enjoy a small waterfall and swim in a freshwater pool. Playa Grande is located 7 kilometers north of town and is the most consistent surfing beach around. The waves here are seldom busy as it is a 30-minute hike to get there! But it is a beautiful hike, with the Montezuma Biological Reserve on one side and the crystalline waters of the Pacific on the other.
If you are looking for adventure you will find it here. You can zip-line through the jungle, swim and marvel at a three-level spectacular waterfall, go horse riding, ATV adventuring, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving or snorkeling.
A short drive south of Montezuma brings you to Cabuya, a sleepy fishing village that also offers some fantastic surfing, but only on a large south swell. There are two point breaks here – one is a long right-hand point break and the other a shorter, but fun left-hand break. But beware, crocodiles have been spotted in the line up here. Cabuya is also the entrance to the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy some strenuous but rewarding hikes through the incredible forest. Close to the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve is the Wild Sun Wildlife Refuge, where volunteers work alongside vets to help injured animals of the forest. The Wild Sun Wildlife Refuge has also started a program to reintroduce the spectacular and raucous Scarlet Macaws to the area.
